Get This Party Started

Day 2

And we’re back…after writing yesterday’s post, I got the worst migraine I’ve had in several years and put myself directly to bed for 3 hours.  I woke up feeling disconnected but better and got through the rest of the afternoon and evening without incident. Normally I experience migraines when I’m coming down off of a stressful situation.  As the current state of our world, both macro and micro, does not indicate the end of stress in anyway, shape or form, it is possible I’ve discovered a new trigger for these stupid headaches. I’m not willing to cede that ground, however, so I’m choosing to believe yesterday was a one off and move forward.

I thought it might be fun to see the starting situation for our new school room and compare these pictures to reality in a couple days.  I’ve had many people tell me to be gentle with ourselves and not try to establish a rigid schedule. I’m holding that advice loosely this week because the thing that will ramp my and Arden’s anxiety up to a 10 is the lack of a plan or a schedule.  We thrive on structure and crumble in chaos. So today we are going to move through a pretty easy but structured day and see how it works for us. I’ll let you know if we devolve into pajamas and Cheez Its all day – but for today this is working.

We slept until 8:30 (well I slept until 4:45 a.m., took the dog out and then somehow fell back to sleep) and then went through breakfast and getting dressed and brushing our teeth.  We arrived at the table at 9:45 and began our Math lesson. She’s working on multiplication as I type this. I’ll post today’s schedule below along with other pictures of our set up.

If you hover over each picture, you can see what everything is.  I never was more thankful for my obsession with office and school supplies than yesterday when I started to put all this together.

As for the virus stuff – I turned it off last night for a while and haven’t picked it back up today.  It is kind of like This Is Us to me – makes me feel emotionally manipulated. I also am trying to push the thought of not seeing people for a long time – even if it is just at the park or stores – away and concentrate on today.  This is what we are doing today – as Scripture says – tomorrow has enough worries of its own.

Later today, I’m going to show Arden how to make the easy bread recipe I have and we are going to put together the stuff for Chicken Noodle soup – because we are going to need some comfort over the next few days!

News of the Day: new government recommendations are no more than 10 people gathered for the next 15 days.  There is a hope this will slow down the spread of the virus and not overwhelm our hospital systems.

Today is the democratic primary in Illinois – I’m not voting because I am not a democrat. There is concern about virus transmission at the polling places and the real fact that the majority of poll volunteers are in the most high risk danger zone for the virus.  I’m praying this does not materialize into something serious.

Tom Brady is leaving the New England Patriots after 20 years of being on the team.  Speculation is he will go to the Los Angeles Chargers or Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As a Chargers’ fan, I say no thank you.  The team didn’t call me for my input. Shocking.

Today is sunny and in the mid 40s.  So thankful for the sunshine today, even if it is too cold to really do a ton outside.  We will take the dog for a long walk at some point.

My Plan for the Day:  “school” work”, start bread, teach Arden how to make soup, I need to get my driver’s license renewed before my birthday (which is in 2 weeks), I’m not sure if they are open with all the other closures, but that’s on my list to check for this afternoon. Take the comforter from my bed to the laundromat, again, because Romeo tinkled on it yesterday – it is too big to fit in our washing machine and I think a laundromat is fairly likely to be open and not full of people.

See you tomorrow!

Cheers!
